Saudi
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has rejected an Israeli offer to join military
operations against Yemen’s Houthi group, according to a report by Israeli
newspaper Haaretz. Citing diplomatic sources, the report said Riyadh was
concerned that military cooperation with Israel could trigger a negative public
reaction. Israel reportedly hoped such cooperation would strengthen bilateral
ties and pave the way for a future normalization agreement.
Saudi Arabia has no diplomatic relations with Israel and has maintained that normalization depends on resolving the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of a Palestinian state. The report comes amid renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, which have reportedly caused casualties and disrupted flights. Yemen’s conflict began in 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, followed by a Saudi-led military intervention in March 2015.
