Washington: A senior security official in former
US President Donald Trump’s administration has resigned during the ongoing
conflict involving Iran.
Joe Kent, who was serving as the head of the
National Counterterrorism Center, stepped down from his position, becoming one
of the first senior officials to leave during the current situation.
In his resignation, Kent raised concerns about the
military action and questioned the necessity of the conflict, stating that Iran
did not pose an immediate threat to the United States.
The resignation comes at a time when the conflict
has raised serious concerns within security and policy circles about its impact
and long-term consequences.
Responding to the development, Donald Trump
criticised Kent’s stance and said his departure was not a concern for the
administration.
Officials have not yet announced who will take
over the role following his exit.
