Chennai:
Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of
Tamil Nadu at 10 AM on Sunday after days of intense political discussions and
alliance negotiations following the Assembly election results.
The victory of
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) marked a major shift in Tamil Nadu politics,
ending the long-standing dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and
the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). TVK secured 108 seats in
the 234-member Assembly, falling just short of the majority mark.
After receiving
support from the Indian National Congress and Left parties, Vijay met Governor
Rajendra Arlekar and staked claim to form the government. He will now have to
prove his majority by seeking a vote of confidence in the Assembly by
Wednesday.
