Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has said he regrets “every minute” he spent with Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of new documents by the US Justice Department that detail Epstein’s communications with several high-profile figures. Speaking to 9News Australia, Gates apologised for his past association with the convicted sex offender and rejected claims made in an unsent draft email attributed to Epstein, calling the allegations “false.”
The
newly released documents include emails and records that shed light on
Epstein’s attempts to maintain connections with influential individuals. In one
draft email, Epstein made unverified allegations about Gates’ personal life,
which Gates strongly denied, saying the email was never sent and questioning
Epstein’s motives. A spokesperson for Gates said the documents only show
Epstein’s frustration over not having an ongoing relationship with the
billionaire philanthropist.
Gates’ former
wife, Melinda French Gates, said the revelations reopened painful memories from
their marriage and added that unanswered questions should be addressed by those
involved. Bill Gates confirmed he met Epstein in 2011 and had several dinners
with him over a few years, stating the interactions were related to discussions
on philanthropy and global health, which he now acknowledges was a “dead end.”
The couple divorced in 2021.
