ICF urges Kerala government to establish state syllabus schools in GCC countries

Memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during Bahrain visit

Manama (Bahrain): The Indian Cultural Foundation (ICF) has called on the Kerala government to establish schools following the Kerala state syllabus in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, highlighting the growing educational challenges faced by expatriate families. The ICF International Council submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during its recent visit to Bahrain, stressing the need for Kerala syllabus schools to cater to the educational continuity of Indian students abroad.

The memorandum pointed out that many Indian families living in GCC nations struggle to find schools that follow the Kerala syllabus, disrupting their children’s academic progress when they return home. Establishing such schools would particularly benefit families residing temporarily in Gulf countries, ensuring that students can seamlessly continue their education without facing curriculum gaps or adaptation difficulties.

ICF further noted that launching schools affiliated with the Kerala syllabus-either directly under the Kerala government or through authorized educational institutions-would make quality education more accessible and culturally relevant. It would also strengthen the emotional and educational ties between Kerala and its diaspora, while promoting the state’s educational framework at an international level.

The ICF International Committee urged the Chief Minister’s Office to initiate discussions with India’s Ministry of External Affairs and respective Indian embassies in GCC countries to explore this possibility. The ICF also expressed its readiness to assist in identifying potential locations, mobilizing community support, and facilitating local participation to make this educational initiative a reality.
