Old Doha Port celebrates Qatar National Day with heritage-inspired festivities

Doha, Qatar: Old Doha Port is marking Qatar National Day with a destination-wide programme of heritage-led celebrations, welcoming families, residents, and visitors to experience Qatar’s rich cultural legacy across Mina District and Mina Park.

Reflecting its identity as a historic maritime gateway and a living cultural destination, the celebrations highlight the Port’s role in preserving and showcasing Qatar’s maritime heritage, drawing inspiration from the sea, traditional livelihoods, and the strong community spirit that shaped Doha’s early development.

On December 18, National Day activities will take place across Mina District from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, featuring live demonstrations by traditional craftsmen, authentic Arabic coffee experiences, and performances by traditional bands. Youth-led National Ardah performances will also be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, celebrating the values, customs, and shared traditions that continue to define Qatari identity.

At 18:12, the national anthem will be played across Old Doha Port as part of the Government Communications Office’s “One Nation, One Oath” initiative. The unified moment will bring visitors together in reflection and pride, reinforcing national unity on this historic occasion.

Visitors can further explore the Old Doha installation at Mina Park, which offers an immersive journey through the capital’s earliest neighbourhoods. Through detailed models and storytelling, the installation depicts life in Doha between the 1930s and 1950s, highlighting the architecture, daily rhythms, and community spirit of the farij, and offering a deeper connection to the heritage that continues to shape Qatar’s identity.

From December 17 to 19, the Rasta Festival will animate Mina District with live music, street fashion, culinary experiences, and interactive art. The festival features vibrant colour parades, butterfly stilt walkers, colourful drummers, and musical performances by violinists, saxophonists, and accordion players. The festival will run daily from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, celebrating creativity, movement, and youth culture along the waterfront.

Together, these National Day activations underscore Old Doha Port’s role as a heritage-driven maritime destination, where Qatar’s past is brought to life through immersive cultural programming. By blending tradition with contemporary celebration, Old Doha Port continues to connect generations and honour the nation’s enduring identity.
