Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Rumailah Hospital has reached a major international milestone, with its Department of Geriatrics becoming the first service outside the United Kingdom to receive Developmental Accreditation from the Memory Services National Accreditation Programme (MSNAP) of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. The achievement places Rumailah Hospital’s Memory Services among an elite group of globally recognised centres for excellence in memory and cognitive care.
The
accreditation followed a comprehensive in-person peer review, which confirmed
that the hospital’s Memory Services meet internationally recognised quality
standards, benchmarked against UK best practice. The assessment highlighted
strong leadership, a shared clinical vision and effective coordination across
multidisciplinary teams, noting the service’s clear commitment to
patient-centred, safe and evidence-based care for people living with
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The MSNAP review also commended RAHA, Qatar’s
National Alzheimer’s and Memory Services Helpline, citing positive feedback
from patients and caregivers, robust governance frameworks and strong systems
that support quality, safety and continuity of care. Reviewers noted that staff
are well supported, closely aligned and dedicated to delivering compassionate
and dignified care.
Established in
2012, Rumailah Hospital’s Memory Services function as Qatar’s national centre
for memory and cognitive health, providing early assessment, coordinated care
pathways and ongoing support for older adults and their families. The latest
recognition builds on HMC’s leadership in dementia care, following the
department’s designation in 2023 as a World Health Organization Collaborating
Center for Healthy Ageing and Dementia, reinforcing its commitment to
internationally benchmarked, high-quality services.
