As reported by a United Nations committee on Wednesday, at least 21,000 children in Gaza have suffered disabilities since the beginning of the Israeli aggression in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities highlighted that approximately 40,500 children have sustained new war-related injuries over the nearly two years of conflict, with more than half resulting in disabilities.
In its review of the situation in the Palestinian territories, the committee noted that Israeli evacuation orders during military offensives in Gaza were often inaccessible to individuals with hearing or visual impairments, making evacuation efforts impossible for many. Reports indicated that people with disabilities were forced to flee in unsafe and undignified conditions, including crawling through sand or mud without mobility assistance.
The committee also expressed concern over restrictions on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, stating these measures disproportionately affect individuals with disabilities.
