Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched a search operation for 18 individuals reported missing following the explosion and fire at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to the ministry, the number of people injured in the incident has risen to 54. The search operation is being carried out in coordination with the Qatari International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) and Civil Defense teams.

MoI said preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was caused by a technical malfunction during operations at the facility. Authorities also reassured the public that no hazardous leak or release of substances posing a threat to public safety had been detected.
