DPS Modern Indian School celebrates historic academic victory as student achieves perfect score

Doha, Qatar: DPS Modern Indian School is celebrating a milestone achievement as student Amir Nawaz secured a perfect score of 500 out of 500 in his CBSE Board examinations, a historic first for the institution as it marks its 25th anniversary. This unprecedented success highlights the school’s commitment to a holistic educational model that balances rigorous academics with high-level extracurricular engagement.

The perfect score arrives at a significant time for the school. "We’ve completed 25 years of existence," noted Principal Asna Nafees. "And in our 25th year, this is a wonderful victory for us... This is the first time". The achievement is not an isolated one; Amir is part of a high-performing cohort where 44 children ranked in the top ten, all scoring between 97% and 99.8%.

“In our 25th year, this perfect score is not just a result - it is a benchmark that proves excellence is achievable and scalable.”

Amir has long been recognized as a "star performer" within the school community. Beyond his 100% academic record, he represented the State of Qatar in the International Junior School Olympiad and served as a premier member of the Qatar debate team.

The school attributes such success to a specialized support system that mirrors the training of elite athletes. For high-achieving students, the Principal described the strategy as focusing on marginal gains:

"The approach at the topmost is like an athlete who is running a 100-meter dash. And all I have to improve is a 0.01 seconds of improvement".

To achieve this, the school provides "specialized remediations, extra classes, and a curriculum designed for higher-order thinking".

To combat the stress of high-stakes testing, DPS implements a long-term planning strategy. "We believe that no action can happen at the n’th moment," Ms Nafees explained. Preparation begins as early as Grade 9 to ensure students are "fully prepared to take up the examinations without coming under stress" by the time they reach their pre-boards. For students requiring extra care, the school utilizes a network of counsellors, well-being teachers, and support groups.

“Scoring 500/500 is just the beginning - consistency, passion, and a positive learning environment made this possible.”

“I never saw studying as a burden - when you enjoy learning, success naturally follows.”

Amir credited this environment for his results, stating, "The reason I got 500 out of 500 is because of DPS... They create such a positive environment that stimulates you to study". He noted that teachers were "always a doorstep away," even assisting with the nuances of marking schemes during the board exams.

For Amir, the perfect score is "just the starting point". An aspiring engineer, he is now shifting his focus toward the JEE exams with the ultimate goal of attending a top Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). "I love physics, chemistry, and maths," Amir said. "I don’t consider [studying] as a burden or a responsibility. I just love studying".

Offering advice to his juniors, Amir emphasized three pillars for success:

"Firstly, just be consistent with whatever you're doing. Secondly, respect your teachers a lot because they're trying a lot for you and they're working really hard to ensure that you get good grades in your CBSE board exams. And lastly, do not take it as a burden and don't be stressed about it. It's going to be okay. And just give your best."

The school leadership believes Amir’s success has set a new benchmark for the community. As the Principal concluded, "I am sure it creates a kind of a benchmark. Okay, this is scalable, we can do it".
