Old Doha Port marks Earth Day with major marine conservation and sustainability drive

Doha, Qatar: To mark Earth Day, Old Doha Port highlighted its dedicated commitment to marine protection and the Qatar National Vision 2030 through several key sustainability initiatives. A primary focus is the flagship Seabed Cleaning program, now in its fourth year, which employs professional divers to remove plastics, abandoned fishing nets, and heavy debris from depths of up to six meters to safeguard marine life and ensure safe navigation.

Complementing these efforts, the Port maintains a high level of readiness for oil spills and pollution incidents, utilizing specialized floating barriers and recovery tools managed by rapid-response teams that undergo regular drills. Furthermore, a strictly regulated waste management system for vessels has been established, featuring dedicated collection points for solid waste, sewage treatment facilities, and specialized tanks for used oils.

All collected waste undergoes a pre-assessment and sorting process to maximize recycling, while the discharge of any materials into the water basin is strictly prohibited. These measures are reinforced by continuous monitoring to ensure all operators comply with the Port's rigorous environmental standards.
