Doha, Qatar: Skywatchers and astronomy enthusiasts will be able to witness the Eta Aquarids meteor shower from Tuesday night, May 5, until the early hours of May 6.
Regarded as one of the most prominent annual meteor showers, the Eta Aquarids occur from April 19 to May 28 each year, but will reach its peak tonight from 10pm until dawn with approximately 50 meteors per hour.
Head of the Qatar Astronomical Center, Sheikh Salman Bin Jabor Al Thani, advised skywatchers to head to low-populated areas such as Sawda Natheel, Zekreet, or Al Khor for the best viewing experience. He added that the shower can be seen with the naked eye by looking toward the southeastern horizon and can be distinguished by its high speed and bright trails that last for seconds.
