New Delhi/Doha: The Government of India has declared Monday, July 13, 2026, as a one-day national mourning as a mark of respect following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir of the State of Qatar.
As
part of the national mourning, the National
Flag of India will be flown at half-mast across the country on all
buildings where it is regularly displayed. The Government has also announced
that there will be no official
entertainment throughout the day.
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi expressed
profound condolences on the demise of HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,
describing him as a visionary leader
who guided Qatar to remarkable levels of development and prosperity. The Prime
Minister also noted that the Father Amir was a true friend of India, whose leadership played a significant role
in strengthening the close and enduring ties between the two nations.
Meanwhile,
India's Minister of Parliamentary
Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, is expected to visit Qatar
shortly to convey condolences on behalf of the Government of India to the
leadership and people of the State of Qatar.
The
announcement reflects the deep respect India holds for the late Father Amir and
underscores the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership shared
between India and Qatar.
