Qatar MoI: Unpaid traffic fines beyond 12 months to face legal action

Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has urged motorists in Qatar to settle their traffic fines within the prescribed time limits, stressing that timely payment demonstrates compliance with the law, helps prevent the accumulation of violations, and allows drivers to benefit from available incentives. The Ministry said prompt payment also helps motorists avoid legal procedures that may arise from unpaid fines.

In a public awareness message shared through its official platforms, the MoI stated that traffic fines remaining unpaid for more than 12 months will be referred to the competent prosecution authorities, after which reconciliation procedures will no longer be available. The Ministry also reminded motorists that they can receive a 50% discount on eligible traffic violations if the fine is paid within one month from the date the violation is issued.

The Ministry emphasized that settling traffic fines on time not only helps drivers avoid legal accountability and additional penalties but also supports road safety and respect for the law. It encouraged all road users to regularly check their traffic violations and ensure payments are made within the specified deadlines, reaffirming that adherence to traffic regulations contributes to a safer and more responsible driving environment in Qatar.
