Dammam: A Malayali family from Qatar, who had traveled by road to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia, met with a horrific accident near Taif. Two members of the family lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as Rahna (52), wife of Abdullatheef (Kunjumon), and their eldest daughter, Dr. Nahla Narmin (29). The family is originally from Naduvattam Thekke Peedikkal House, Rangattur, Tirur, in the Malappuram district of Kerala.
The tragic accident occurred on Sunday night around 8:00 PM on the Taif–Riyadh express highway, approximately 200 kilometers from Taif, at a location called "Dalam." The family was returning after completing their Umrah rituals.
Abdullatheef, their other two daughters, and a grandchild who were also in the vehicle survived with injuries. According to available information, their injuries are not serious.
Abdullatheef explained that a plastic sheet flying through the air suddenly struck the front windshield of their Land Cruiser. The impact obscured their vision, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then rolled over multiple times on the road.
Abdullatheef is a long-time expatriate in Qatar and works as an employee at the Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO).
The deceased, Rahna, is the daughter of Umarkutty and Meharunnisa Kummatt.
The bodies of the victims are currently kept at the Dalam Central Hospital mortuary. Relatives and fellow natives from Dammam and other areas have rushed to the site upon hearing the news. The bodies will be buried in Saudi Arabia.
