Doha, Qatar: The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with profound enthusiasm and reverence today. The official ceremony took place at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), attended by over 500 members of the Indian diaspora and distinguished friends of India.
The ceremony commenced with the singing of the National Song, Vande Mataram. Following this, Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Sandeep Kumar raised the National Flag, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the laying of floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Mr. Kumar addressed the gathering and shared excerpts from the Address to the Nation by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, delivered on the eve of Independence Day. In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires emphasized the strengthening of diplomatic ties between India and Qatar, highlighting the recent high-level visits and exchanges that reaffirm the close political understanding and commitment to enhancing the multifaceted partnership.
Mr. Kumar articulated India’s journey as a vibrant and resilient democracy, firmly rooted in the values enshrined in its Constitution. He underscored Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat @2047, while also outlining significant achievements such as robust economic growth, the dynamism of India’s youth, advancements in infrastructure and connectivity, as well as the empowerment of women and entrepreneurs. He noted the country's growing capabilities in artificial intelligence, space, semiconductors, and other emerging technologies.
Expressing gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and the Government and people of Qatar, Mr. Kumar acknowledged their continued support for the Indian community. He lauded the contributions of the Indian community and commended various organizations for their steadfast commitment to community welfare and progress.
The celebrations included a series of patriotic songs and vibrant cultural performances by members of the Indian community and schoolchildren. To facilitate broader engagement, the event was live-streamed on the Embassy’s official Facebook and YouTube channels, allowing those unable to attend in person to participate virtually.
Additionally, certificates were awarded to the winners of the Painting Competition organized by the Embassy on the theme of Viksit Bharat @2047, as well as to the top performers of the Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz.
