Qatar health experts urge caution over weight-loss medicines

Qatar health authorities have urged consumers to exercise caution when using weight-loss medicines and injections, advising the public to ensure products are registered in the country and obtained only from licensed pharmacies and healthcare facilities. The Ministry of Public Health also warned against relying on medicines promoted through social media or personal recommendations.

Dr. Aisha Saqr, a specialist in therapeutic nutrition and obesity, stressed that weight-loss injections should only be considered after proper medical assessment. Factors such as BMI, obesity-related health conditions and medical test results should be evaluated before treatment is prescribed.

Experts also cautioned against growing interest in retatrutide, an experimental weight-loss injection being developed by Eli Lilly. Despite promising clinical-trial results, the drug has not yet received regulatory approval and is not available for public use. Consumers were advised against obtaining such treatments from overseas or unofficial sellers.
