Qatar National Library to organise 'Ready for School' workshops in August

Doha, Qatar: In the month of August, the Qatar National Library (QNL) will host a series of workshops under the 'Ready for School' initiative, aimed at providing parents, caregivers, teachers, and young children with practical guidance for a seamless transition to kindergarten and school. The program will focus on various aspects of school readiness, including children's social and emotional wellbeing, the pivotal role of parents as first educators, and the development of essential skills for independent learning.

On August 24, an online workshop titled 'Social and Emotional Preparedness' will be held. This session, aimed at parents, caregivers, and teachers of children aged 3 to 6, will feature Dr. Heba Gamal Hariri, an Associate Professor of Psychology. The workshop will offer strategies to enhance children's psychological, social, and emotional skills, fostering independence and easing the shift from home to school. Participants will also learn about establishing supportive routines and managing school-related anxiety.

The following day, August 25, QNL will present 'You Are the First Teacher,' a workshop emphasizing the critical role of parents, caregivers, and teachers in preparing children for their initial educational experiences. This session will focus on creating a supportive home environment, developing balanced routines, and employing practical activities to enhance children's emotional, language, and cognitive abilities.

The final two sessions, scheduled for August 26 and 27, will feature "Small Skills, Big Beginnings," an interactive workshop for children aged 3 to 5, accompanied by a parent. Led by Hiyam Hesham, an early childhood specialist, the program will incorporate hands-on activities inspired by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Montessori approach. These sessions aim to develop children's independence, attention, and fine motor skills necessary for early learning, using play and interaction to boost communication and language development.

QNL highlights the significance of early childhood in shaping psychological, cognitive, and social development. By providing practical tools to adults and involving children in age-appropriate activities, the initiative aims to ensure a positive and well-prepared transition to school. Families interested in participating can register via the QNL website, with the option to choose between the August 26 and 27 sessions based on convenience.
