Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded motorists that driving at night without switching on vehicle lights is a traffic violation under Article 70 of Qatar’s Traffic Law. The ministry urged drivers to ensure their lights are on before setting off at night as an essential road-safety measure.

Under Law No. 19 of 2007, vehicles must use the required lights between sunset and sunrise, as well as during daytime when visibility is poor due to weather conditions. Motor vehicles are required to use headlights and rear lights and avoid dazzling other road users with high beams.

Violations of Article 70 fall under offences covered by Article 95 of the Traffic Law. The statutory court penalty can include imprisonment from one week to one year, or a fine ranging from QR3,000 to QR10,000, depending on the case.

The MoI's reminder forms part of its ongoing road-safety awareness efforts, encouraging motorists to comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles remain clearly visible to other road users, particularly at night and during poor visibility.
