Doha, Qatar: India’s
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has arrived in Doha on an
official visit aimed at strengthening energy cooperation between India and
Qatar. He was received by Indian Ambassador Vipul along with officials from
QatarEnergy, reflecting the importance of the visit amid evolving regional
energy dynamics.
The two-day visit on
April 9 and 10 comes at a time when global energy markets are under pressure
due to escalating tensions in West Asia and disruptions to fuel supplies. Qatar
continues to be one of India’s most reliable suppliers of natural gas, playing
a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing energy needs. Recent
developments, including reported incidents affecting facilities linked to
QatarEnergy, have raised concerns over supply stability and prompted closer
engagement between key partners.
In March, QatarEnergy had declared force majeure, resulting in a temporary halt in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, further contributing to uncertainty in global markets. Against this backdrop, Puri’s visit is expected to focus on ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies and reinforcing bilateral ties. Earlier, the minister also held discussions with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, with India reaffirming its continued support in supplying energy products while safeguarding its domestic requirements.
