Qatar warns Middle East 'very close' to uncontrolled war escalation

Doha, Qatar: Qatar warned on Tuesday that the Middle East war is approaching a threshold beyond which escalation cannot be controlled.

"We have been warning since 2023 that escalation left unchecked will get us into a situation where it cannot be controlled and we are very close to that point," said Majed Al-Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesman. "There are no winners if this war continues."

Al-Ansari urged all parties to refrain from escalation that would harm the region's security, environmental, and humanitarian situation. He noted that attacks on critical infrastructure have brought the region to the brink, threatening food, water, and environmental security.

"We are all waiting for what's going to happen in the next couple of hours," he said. Al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to defending its sovereignty and expressed support for mediation efforts led by Pakistan and other partners.
