Indian Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri visits Doha, holds talks on energy cooperation and regional stability

Doha, Qatar: India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, arrived in Doha on April 9 for a two-day official visit, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key energy concerns. During the visit, he met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, to discuss cooperation in the energy sector and broader strategic relations.

The minister conveyed greetings and a message of solidarity from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He also recalled recent telephone conversations between Prime Minister Modi and the Amir in March 2026, where both leaders stressed the urgent need for peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy, while appreciating Qatar’s support to the Indian community.

Discussions between the two sides covered a wide range of areas including high-level engagements, trade, investment, energy cooperation, cultural ties, and people-to-people relations. Both ministers expressed hope for an early return to regional stability and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding partnership between India and Qatar.

Al-Kaabi reiterated Qatar’s commitment to remain a reliable energy supplier and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with India in ensuring energy security. The talks come at a time of global uncertainty in energy markets, with disruptions impacting supply chains.

Both sides also welcomed the two-week ceasefire announced on April 8 and emphasized the importance of restoring normalcy in global energy supplies. They underlined the need for unimpeded freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of global commerce to sustain supply chains.

The visit concluded with both ministers agreeing to remain in close contact in the coming weeks, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and addressing evolving global energy challenges.
