Malala Yousafzai returns to Pakistan for girls' education summit

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai expressed her joy and gratitude as she returned to Pakistan to attend a global summit on girls' education in the Islamic world. Speaking at the conference in Islamabad, she described her visit as an "honour" and highlighted the urgency of addressing barriers to education for girls in Muslim-majority countries. The summit, inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, brings together leaders to tackle the issue of millions of out-of-school girls.

Malala, who survived an assassination attempt by the Pakistani Taliban in 2012, will deliver a keynote address on Sunday. She announced her focus on advocating for accountability for the Taliban’s actions against Afghan women and girls, the only group globally banned from education. Pakistan’s education minister confirmed Afghanistan's Taliban government was invited to the summit but received no response.

Pakistan itself faces a critical education crisis, with over 26 million children out of school due to poverty. Malala, a global icon for education rights and the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, continues to champion equal access to education, emphasizing its role in empowering future generations.
