Ministry of Education honours 63 private schools and kindergartens with White Flag Award

Doha: Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education has honoured 63 private schools and kindergartens with the trophy in the third edition of the “White Flag” Award, recognising institutions that maintained a clean record without violations or official warnings for three consecutive years.

The award ceremony was organised by the Ministry’s Private Schools and Kindergartens Department and School Licensing Department. Dr Rania Yousri Mohamed, Director of the Private Schools and Kindergartens Department and Acting Director of the School Licensing Department, said the third edition marked the completion of the award’s first cycle. In addition to the 63 institutions receiving trophies, 45 received shields and 99 were awarded certificates of appreciation.

A total of 207 private educational institutions were recognised this year, comprising 126 schools and 81 kindergartens, compared with 166 institutions last year. The award aims to promote institutional excellence and encourage compliance with laws and regulations, while fostering safe and stable learning environments, positive relationships with parents and responsible cooperation with the Ministry.

The award is based on clear criteria, including maintaining records free of violations and warnings during the academic year, having no substantiated complaints, ensuring accuracy in administrative transactions and maintaining effective communication with families. Institutions receive a certificate of appreciation in the first year, a White Flag shield in the second year and the trophy in the third year, provided they continue to meet the required standards.

Dr Rania noted that the increase in recognised institutions came despite stricter eligibility criteria, including the addition of licensing-related warnings. She said the achievement reflected growing awareness and commitment among private educational institutions, as well as continued cooperation between the Ministry and the education sector to uphold quality.
