Doha: The Ministry of Public Health is
intensifying its programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting mental health
and well-being across different segments of society through a series of
awareness and specialist activities throughout October, marking World Mental
Health Day.
The ministry's efforts focus on incorporating
individuals' lived experiences into the development of mental health services
and strengthening their involvement in decisions about their care, helping
deliver more responsive, person-centred services.
Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani,
Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programs Department at
MoPH, affirmed that Qatar attaches growing importance to mental health as a key
healthcare priority, recognising its impact on individuals, families, and
society. He noted that the past six months have witnessed the development and
unification of standard operating procedures, templates, and key processes
related to mental health services, alongside updates to patients' rights and
responsibilities. He emphasised that continued progress requires stronger
partnerships between the ministry, healthcare institutions, academic and
research bodies, and the wider community.
Among the activities organised was the
"Silatha Journey for Women," held as part of the MoPH Mental Health
Campaign 2026, focusing on raising awareness of women's mental health through
panel discussions, an educational workshop, and an introduction to the Silatha
application. Activities also included a webinar under the Mental Health
Continuing Medical Education Programme on risk assessment and management among
patients with mental health and behavioural disorders.
Throughout the year, the ministry implements programmes including the Mental Health Promotion Programme for Student Wellbeing 2026, training-of-trainers programmes in youth centres and sports clubs, and a programme to promote mental health among senior citizens in collaboration with Ehsan. The ministry encourages individuals experiencing mental health concerns to use the National Mental Health Helpline by calling 16000 and selecting option 4.
