Exit polls from Israel’s Kan 11 and Channel 13 news networks indicate a political deadlock, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc and the opposition led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot each projected to win around 51 seats in the 120-member Knesset. Arab-led parties are projected to secure the remaining 18 seats.
Netanyahu’s
Likud Party is expected to emerge as the largest single party, with
approximately 27 seats. However, neither major bloc appears to have secured the
61 seats required for a parliamentary majority, raising questions about the
formation of the next government.
Addressing
supporters, Netanyahu called for a strong right-wing government and ruled out
relying on Arab parties for support. Eisenkot, meanwhile, said the results
reflected a lack of confidence in Netanyahu and pledged to work swiftly to form
a new government, warning against using national security issues for political
purposes.
The
results could lead to difficult coalition negotiations, a minority government
or another election if no agreement is reached. Final results are expected
within 48 hours, while Netanyahu would remain caretaker prime minister during
the political uncertainty.
