Palestinian goalkeeper Salem Al-Ashqar has tragically lost his life during an Israeli military operation, as confirmed by a statement from the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) and reports from Al Jazeera.
The Palestinian Football Association reported that Al-Ashqar is among more than 1,000 Palestinian athletes who have been killed since the escalation of the war in Gaza in October 2023.
Al-Ashqar, who married just five months ago, is survived by his pregnant wife, who is anticipating the couple's first child. His untimely death has elicited widespread grief within the Palestinian sporting community, with tributes commemorating both his contributions to football and the personal life that was abruptly interrupted by the ongoing conflict.
