Doha, Qatar: The Qatari national football team has slipped to 55th in the FIFA World Rankings for March, now ranked 5th among both Arab and Asian teams with 1,456.5 points. This drop follows a 1-3 defeat against Kyrgyzstan in the eighth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, impacting Qatar's direct qualification hopes for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Qatar, the two-time reigning AFC Asian Cup champion, now needs a strong finish in its group to advance further in the qualifiers.
Currently, Qatar is in fourth place in Group A with 10 points, trailing behind leaders Iran, who has secured direct qualification with 20 points. Uzbekistan is on the brink of its first World Cup appearance, sitting in second with 17 points, while the UAE holds third place.
Globally, Argentina remains at the top with 1,886.16 points. Spain has moved to second, pushing France to third. Among Arab nations, Morocco leads at 12th globally, while Japan continues to dominate in Asia at 15th globally.
