Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE are reportedly planning a joint bid to host the Rugby World Cup. Asia Rugby, the continental representative body, is set to back this ambitious proposal.
If successful, the tournament would return to Asia for the first time since Japan's hosting in 2019 and mark the debut participation of the three Gulf nations.
Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai advocates for a multi-city host model, which has proven successful in football. "A multi-host could be a successful story and a new model for rugby. UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia. Why not? The stadiums are ready there. It will be the most successful event in the history of rugby," Al Dhalai commented.
With Australia and the United States already set to host the upcoming Men's Rugby World Cups in 2027 and 2031 respectively, the bidding for the 2035 tournament is expected to commence within the next two years. The Gulf countries are keen to secure either the 2035 or 2039 editions.
