Doha: The
State of Qatar has been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region
in the 2026 Global Peace Index, according to an announcement by the National
Planning Council.
The
achievement reinforces Qatar's position as one of the region's most stable and
secure countries despite a challenging global and regional environment. The
results also showed an improvement in the Societal Safety and Security domain,
with Qatar's score rising from 1.400 to 1.369 in 2026, demonstrating the
effectiveness of the country's institutions, national capabilities, and social
cohesion in maintaining security, public safety, and stability.
Published annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace, the Global Peace Index measures peace across countries by assessing indicators related to societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarisation. The index serves as an important benchmark for policymakers to assess stability, security, and conditions that support sustainable development, investment, and quality of life.
