India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on Monday, emphasizing the need for open and constructive dialogue between the two nations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, amid a backdrop of evolving global challenges.
During
his interaction, Jaishankar voiced optimism about sustaining the recent
positive trajectory in India-China relations. He expressed confidence that the
discussions held during his visit would help maintain and build upon the
progress made since the leaders of both countries met in Kazan in October last
year.
Highlighting
the importance of regional cooperation, Jaishankar reiterated India's full
support for China’s presidency of the SCO. He stressed that mutual respect and
continued engagement were vital to navigating the complex international
environment and fostering stable bilateral ties.
The meeting underlined both nations' willingness to uphold diplomatic channels and work towards long-term regional stability. Jaishankar’s visit reflects India's strategic intent to balance cooperation with caution as it continues engaging with key players in the region through multilateral forums like the SCO.
