Riyadh: The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthis said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone in the region of Makkah, Islam's holiest city, following repeated waves of attacks by the pro-Iran militants on the kingdom.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki wrote on social media that the drone was intercepted and destroyed in the Mecca region, without elaborating on the source of the attack.

The interception comes amid repeated waves of drone and missile attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia.

The coalition has regularly announced the interception of drones and missiles launched toward the kingdom in recent years.
