Six people lost their lives in Kerala on Saturday due to heavy rainfall that began on Friday night, devastating the state. Landslides and flooding have ravaged homes and large areas of agricultural land, with Kottayam and Pathanamthitta being the hardest hit. The deluge continued, particularly affecting the hilly regions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for nine districts: Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has instructed ministers to station themselves in various districts to manage rescue and relief efforts. The state has also requested assistance from the Navy after two fishermen went missing at Muthalapozhi in Thiruvananthapuram, with a coast guard vessel actively conducting search operations.
