Trump announces end of US naval blockade on Iranian ports as deal talks continue

Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced that the naval blockade on Iranian ports will be lifted, allowing stranded ships to begin the process of "going home," according to a post on his Truth Social platform.

Trump wrote that Iran must immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted maritime traffic in both directions without transit fees and work to remove all naval mines, if any remain. He added that many mines had already been destroyed using advanced US naval minesweepers.

On the nuclear issue, Trump stated that Iran must agree not to possess a nuclear weapon. He said enriched material buried underground following a US B-2 bomber attack 11 months ago will be extracted by the United States - which he described as the only country with the mechanical capability to do so, in coordination with China - and then destroyed, working closely with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

On frozen Iranian funds, Trump said: "No money will be exchanged until further notice, as other far less important terms have been agreed upon." He added that he would meet in the Situation Room to make a final decision. Meanwhile, the White House has said Trump will only accept an Iran deal that satisfies his red lines, and Tehran has stated that no agreement has been finalised yet.
