In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American airstrikes had "completely and totally obliterated" Iran’s primary nuclear enrichment facilities, including Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. Speaking from the White House in a televised address flanked by key cabinet members, Trump described the operation as a “spectacular military success” and warned Tehran of even greater strikes if it refuses to pursue peace. The move marks a significant U-turn from Trump’s earlier promises to avoid deep U.S. military entanglement in the region.

The attacks followed a wave of devastating Israeli airstrikes on Iranian facilities, part of an ongoing campaign that began on June 13. Trump’s sudden decision to support Israel came days after he publicly stated he would make a decision "within two weeks." Confirming the strikes, Trump revealed that a “full payload of bombs” was dropped on the heavily fortified Fordo facility. U.S. B-2 bombers, believed to have carried bunker-busting munitions, were reportedly involved, although the specific aircraft and weapons used were not officially disclosed. Iran has vowed severe retaliation, with President Masoud Pezeshkian declaring that the Islamic republic will not halt its nuclear ambitions “under any circumstances.”

The airstrikes have further destabilized the region, with Iran launching retaliatory drone attacks on strategic targets in Israel and threatening wider conflict through its Huthi allies in Yemen. Over 400 deaths have been reported in Iran from Israeli strikes, while Iran’s counterattacks have killed at least 25 people in Israel. As international leaders, including European diplomats, urge the resumption of nuclear negotiations, critics warn that the United States risks becoming embroiled in a prolonged and unpredictable war.
