Beijing - US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping moved towards a more business-oriented relationship during Trump’s three-day visit to Beijing, with both sides focusing on economic cooperation and strategic stability despite unresolved geopolitical tensions.
Accompanied
by top American business leaders from companies including Apple, NVIDIA, BlackRock
and Goldman Sachs, Trump held talks with Xi aimed at strengthening trade ties
and expanding market access between the world’s two largest economies.
The
discussions came months after both countries agreed to pause their trade war
for one year. Trump praised Xi during the visit and expressed optimism about
future ties, while Xi called for “constructive strategic stability” and better
management of differences between Washington and Beijing.
However,
major issues including Taiwan, Iran and the Strait of Hormuz remained
unresolved. Although both leaders agreed on the importance of keeping global
energy routes open and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, neither
side announced any concrete breakthrough on sensitive geopolitical disputes.
