US carries out limited defensive strikes in Strait of Hormuz

The United States military has carried out what it described as “limited defensive” strikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz following reported surface-to-air missile threats against US assets, Al Jazeera reports.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said Washington had made progress in indirect peace talks with Iran. However, Tehran insists that the US must lift its naval blockade and meet its demands before any agreement can be reached.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said two crude oil tankers caught fire after hitting sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Gulf nations have also condemned Friday’s attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, raising further concerns over maritime security in the region.
