US seeks decisive agreement with Iran to avoid further conflict: Reports

The United States appears keen to reach a decisive agreement with Iran and avoid further military conflict, analyst Ihsan al-Khatib has said. He said Vice President JD Vance’s initiative to contact an Iranian security official signals Washington’s interest in pursuing a diplomatic solution.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, al-Khatib said the move reflects the Trump administration’s tendency to bypass official channels it considers ineffective and communicate directly with influential figures within the Iranian government who are involved in decision-making.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he had approved Vance reaching out to Mohsen Rezaei, identified in the reports as a secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, over what he described as the need for assistance with medical supplies. US media reports also said Vance had sent a letter to Rezaei urging peace negotiations.
