New Jersey: Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by
Morocco in their opening Group C match of the FIFA World Cup on Saturday, with
Vinicius Junior scoring a superb equaliser to rescue a point for the five-time
champions.
Morocco
took a surprise lead in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari latched onto a
precise pass from Brahim Diaz and calmly chipped the ball over goalkeeper
Alisson Becker. The North Africans impressed throughout the first half and
looked confident against the tournament favourites.
Brazil
responded 11 minutes later through Vinicius Junior, who cut inside from the
left before unleashing a powerful strike into the far corner. The goal sparked
improvement from Carlo Ancelotti's side, but they struggled to find a winner
despite creating several chances after the break.
Morocco
nearly snatched victory in the closing moments, only for Alisson to produce
crucial saves. Brazil will next face Haiti, while Morocco take on Scotland as
both teams look to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
