US President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on Pope Leo XIV, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy” after the pontiff criticized his administration’s policies. The remarks came in a Truth Social post, where Trump also questioned the Pope’s stance on global conflicts and immigration.
Trump
said he did not want a Pope who opposes US actions against countries like Iran
and Venezuela, and accused Leo of interfering in political matters. He further
alleged, “If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican,”
while adding that he preferred the Pope’s brother Louis, claiming “Louis is all
MAGA” and “gets it.”
The criticism
follows repeated calls by Pope Leo for peace, including condemnation of war and
appeals for better treatment of migrants. The exchange highlights growing
tensions between the White House and the Vatican over foreign policy,
humanitarian concerns, and global conflict.
