Beijing: During
a meeting with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced a four-point proposal
aimed at fostering stability in West Asia and the Gulf. Xi emphasized the need
for a "comprehensive and sustainable security architecture" rooted in
peaceful coexistence and absolute respect for national sovereignty and
territorial integrity.
The proposal also underscored the importance of the international rule of law to prevent a return to the "law of the jungle," while calling for better coordination between development and regional security.
Based on the official meeting in
Beijing, President Xi Jinping’s proposal focuses on creating a stable framework
for the Gulf and West Asian regions through these four pillars:
1. Adherence to
Peaceful Coexistence: Establishing a common, comprehensive, and sustainable
security architecture for the region.
2. Respect for
National Sovereignty: Ensuring the territorial integrity and security of all
nations is fully respected, including the safety of their facilities and
personnel.
3. Upholding the
International Rule of Law: Protecting the authority of international law to
prevent global diplomacy from regressing into a "law of the jungle"
dynamic.
4. Coordination
of Development and Security: Fostering a collaborative environment where
economic development and regional safety support one another.
In a separate meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Xi reiterated these themes, urging China and Spain to defend "true multilateralism" against the rise of power politics. Prime Minister Sanchez echoed these sentiments, stating that Spain opposes a "new Cold War" or the decoupling of global supply chains, instead advocating for enhanced cooperation between Europe and China.
