Democrats push fresh Senate vote to curb Trump’s Iran war powers

Senate Democrats, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, are set to force another vote aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s authority to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional approval.

Schumer said the move would mark the fourth attempt by Democrats since the start of the US-Israel conflict involving Iran, urging Republicans to support efforts to “stop the war” and restore congressional oversight.

Democrats in both the Senate and the House have repeatedly introduced war powers resolutions requiring the president to seek authorization from Congress before launching military action, but these efforts have been blocked by Republican majorities.

Criticizing Trump’s strategy, Schumer described “Operation Epic Fury” as a failure, saying it has led to instability in the Strait of Hormuz and rising fuel prices in the US, while Iran’s government and nuclear ambitions remain unchanged.
