The image, later deleted, showed Trump in a white robe in a healing-style scene, sparking backlash across the Christian political spectrum.

Trump defended the post, claiming it represented him “as a doctor” linked to humanitarian work, and dismissed criticism as “fake news.” He also reiterated his disapproval of the Pope, saying he does not want a religious leader who criticises the President of the United States.

Responding to the controversy, Pope Leo said he would avoid direct confrontation but would continue to advocate for peace and dialogue. Emphasising global suffering and the need for solutions, he reaffirmed his commitment to promoting diplomacy and speaking out against war.
