Doha: Members of WMC-Q celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, at Al Muftah Rent A Car, bringing together officials and members to commemorate the occasion and reflect on the values of freedom, unity and national progress.

General Secretary Renjith Challil welcomed the gathering, followed by the
presidential address by Ziad Usman. In his address, Usman highlighted the
importance of upholding the values and ideals of those who fought and struggled
for India’s freedom and stressed the responsibility of the present generation
to preserve the principles for which the freedom fighters stood.
Among
the officials present were V.S. Narayanan, Advisory Board Chairman; Sheela
Philippose, President of the Women’s Forum; B.M. Fasil, President of the Youth
Wing; and Jiji K. John, Treasurer. Shamsudheen Ismail, Indu Harikrishnan,
Rejula Shafeeque and Cherish Kurian also shared their views and reflections on
Independence, particularly on the theme “What do we mean by freedom?”
The
celebration also provided an opportunity to reflect on India’s achievements
since Independence as well as the journey that still lies ahead. Discussions
emphasised the importance of preserving the values and vision of the freedom
fighters and maintaining unity in order to realise their dreams for the nation.
The
programme concluded on a note of camaraderie with a photo session and
refreshments. Treasurer Jiji K. John delivered the vote of thanks, while Subina
Vijay served as the emcee for the celebration.
