Qatar Foundation to open Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, a landmark cultural tribute

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Foundation is set to enrich the nation’s cultural landscape with the grand public opening of Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum on November 28. Celebrating the life and legacy of Maqbool Fida Husain—one of the most influential modern artists of the 20th century—the museum serves as a vibrant new destination where art, learning, and community converge at the heart of Education City.

Designed as a dynamic and inclusive space, the museum invites families, students, and global art enthusiasts to explore and connect through Husain’s extraordinary body of work. Jowaher Al Marri, Manager of Communications Outreach at Qatar Foundation, emphasized that the museum reflects the spirit of Education City: a place where curiosity thrives and learning continues throughout life. She noted that by bringing Husain’s art into the community, Qatar Foundation aims to foster dialogue, creativity, and meaningful cultural exchange.

For students and young creatives, the museum marks a major milestone. Syeda Deeba, a fourth-year Interior Design student at VCUarts Qatar, described the opening as “incredibly inspiring,” highlighting how the space deepens Qatar’s cultural fabric. She believes it offers emerging designers a valuable opportunity to study how art interacts with space, culture, and identity—insights essential to shaping thoughtful, contemporary design.

The museum further strengthens Education City’s collaborative environment, bridging disciplines across arts, science, engineering, medicine, and technology. According to Deeba, the addition of a landmark cultural venue encourages cross-campus interaction, joint student projects, and creative exploration. It becomes a shared space where ideas from different fields converge, sparking dialogue around innovation, storytelling, and heritage.

Architecturally inspired by one of Husain’s own sketches and designed by Martand Khosla, the museum houses an extensive collection of the artist’s later works, including masterpieces rooted in Arab civilization and Islamic culture. Alongside exhibitions, visitors can engage in workshops, discussions, and interdisciplinary programs, reinforcing Qatar Foundation’s mission to make learning accessible and impactful. Deeba adds that institutions like QF and VCUarts Qatar continue to empower young creatives by providing world-class opportunities that nurture talent and cement art and innovation as cornerstones of Qatar’s future.
