Qatar kept their FIFA Arab Cup 2025 campaign alive with a crucial 1–1 draw against Syria in Group A at the Khalifa International Stadium, avoiding the threat of an early exit. After losing their opening match to Palestine, the hosts entered the game needing at least a point to maintain their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
Despite
dominating the match with 18 attempts compared to Syria’s two shots on target,
Qatar struggled to break through until the 77th minute, when Ahmed Alaaeldin
finished off a well-placed assist from Edmilson Junior. The Maroons looked set
to claim all three points, only for Omar Kharbin to strike in the 90th minute
and silence the home supporters.
The group will now be decided in the final round of fixtures on Sunday. Qatar will take on Tunisia at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, while Syria face table-toppers Palestine at Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan
