Sheikha Moza inaugurates ‘Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum’ at Education City

Doha, Qatar: Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, inaugurated the landmark Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum today at Education City, celebrating the legacy of one of the world’s greatest modern artists, Maqbool Fida Husain. Speaking at the ceremony, Her Highness highlighted Husain’s ability to bridge cultures through his work and expressed her pride in fulfilling his long-held dream of establishing a museum dedicated to his artistic journey. The event, attended by Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, ministers, dignitaries, and global art experts, showcased a vivid narrative of Husain’s life, influences, and creative evolution.

The museum, which opens to the public on November 28, features more than 150 original artworks and personal items from Husain, many of which are being displayed for the first time. Visitors can explore immersive galleries that reveal the motifs, philosophies, and historical moments that shaped the artist’s career, including his series inspired by Arab civilization and Seeroo fi al ardh, his final masterpiece now incorporated as a central gallery. Through paintings, films, tapestry, photography, and rare personal archives, the museum offers a comprehensive portrait of Husain’s artistic and cultural impact.

Designed as a dynamic space for creativity, learning, and cross-cultural dialogue, the museum reflects Qatar Foundation’s commitment to enriching Qatar’s cultural landscape. In addition to its galleries, the space includes a café, gift shop, library and Creativity Hub, and an auditorium for lectures and events. The museum will operate year-round with photography (without flash) permitted inside. Guided tours in Arabic and English are available, with audio tours set to launch in 2026, further enhancing public engagement with Husain’s enduring legacy.
