A drug-free society is possible through good companionship and moral discipline: Dr. Abdul Nasser Mahboobi

Doha: The drug menace is growing at an alarming rate, and a drug-free society can only be achieved through strong legal measures alongside good companionship and moral discipline, said Dr. Abdul Nasser Mahboobi, Executive Officer of the Kerala Waqf Board.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a group discussion jointly organised by Media Plus, Mindtune Ecowaves, and The Way Corporate Services to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Dr. Mahboobi said that to practically and constructively steer people away from drugs, it is not enough to simply convey messages through words; it is essential to connect heart to heart. He called on society to unite against the growing drug menace, adding that social change is possible when clear action plans are developed through good networks and value systems. Morality, customs, and traditions are what bind a society together, he noted.

He reminded families and organisations of their significant role in creating a drug-free environment. Representatives from various sectors of the expatriate community participated in the discussion.

Ishan Khan, a student at Scholars International School, spoke on behalf of the student community, emphasising the need to ensure a drug-free environment for children and encouraging students to stay away from drugs through creative pathways.

Shanu Green Jobs, Chairman of Green Jobs, said the organisation's motto is "Quit drugs, get a job." Ayesha Saibul, Clinical Psychologist at Asta Sol, spoke about the psychological aspects of drug use and the need for early intervention. United Nurses of India Qatar President Bindu Linsan and Executive Committee member Lajalakshmi explained the role of healthcare workers in drug awareness.

World Kerala Sabha members Rashaini Kabir and Abdul Rauf Kondotti shared their ideas on how to streamline anti-drug activities through expatriate networks. Anti-Drug Committee Qatar President Jafar Jathiyeri and Mindtune Ecowaves Qatar Chairman Muthalib Mattannur emphasised the importance of continuous grassroots-level awareness.

Mindtune Ecowaves office bearers Abdullah Poyil and Jafar Murichandi, along with Sham Doha, Savitha Deepu, Nishad, and Zubair Pandavath, also spoke and declared their support for anti-drug activities. Media Plus CEO Dr. Amanulla Vadakkangara welcomed the gathering and spoke about the role of media in spreading anti-drug messages. The Way Corporate CEO Uwais Usman delivered the vote of thanks.
