Doha: Diaspora of Malappuram (DoM Qatar), an association of expatriates from Kerala's Malappuram district, has launched "AMAL", a six-month anti-drug awareness campaign aimed at promoting a drug-free society and encouraging young people to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle.
The
campaign was officially announced by DoM Qatar President Usman Kallan. Chief Advisor V.C. Mashhood explained that the name "AMAL," meaning "Hope" in Arabic, reflects
the initiative's mission to combat the growing threat of substance abuse
through awareness, education, and community engagement.
The
campaign will focus on four key pillars-Awareness,
Motivation, Action, and Leadership-and will feature seminars, panel
discussions, youth empowerment programmes, family gatherings, and leadership
training sessions in both Qatar and Kerala. The initiative will be implemented
in collaboration with social, cultural, and educational organisations, relevant
ministries in Qatar, and Indian doctors practicing in the country.
The
formal inauguration of the campaign will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 8:00 AM at Bharat Taste Restaurant, Al Thumama. Abdul Latheef Feroke, State Secretary of the Kerala Lahari Nirmaarjjana Samithi,
will deliver the keynote address. Representatives from Qatar's social,
cultural, educational, and media sectors are expected to attend the event. At
the planning meeting, chaired by President Usman Kallan, General Secretary Siddique Vazhakkad
delivered the welcome address, Dr.
Shafeeq Mampad presented the campaign framework, Patron Dr. Amanullah Vadakkangara extended his greetings, and Vice President Saleem Rose proposed
the vote of thanks.
