New York: An Air Canada Express flight arriving from Montreal collided with a fire truck on the runway at LaGuardia Airport late at night, leaving at least four firefighters critically injured. The incident occurred on runway 4 just before 11:40 pm (local time), according to reports.
The
aircraft, identified as a Bombardier CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Airlines,
reportedly struck the vehicle while heading towards the gate. Around 100
passengers were onboard, and their conditions are being assessed. The fire
truck had been cleared to cross the runway to respond to another aircraft
emergency involving a United flight.
Following the
collision, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop at
the airport, diverting incoming flights and halting operations. Videos
circulating on social media showed evacuation efforts and visible damage to the
front of the plane, though authorities are yet to confirm the full extent of
injuries and damage.
